A North Liberty woman who has a barred driving status allegedly used a false name when stopped by officers in order to keep her from being arrested.

34-year-old Armani Griffen of North Dubuque Street was stopped near the intersection of 120th Street and I-380 at around 3:15 pm Wednesday. She was positively identified as the owner of a vehicle with dark window tint leaving a nearby gas station.  When the deputy made contact, Griffen provided a false name and date of birth, saying she was from Wisconsin.

A check of Griffen’s records showed her driving status as barred until August of next year because of habitual offenses. She is required to have SR-22 insurance, which was not on file with police. Griffen has also been suspended multiple times for non-payment of Iowa fines.

Griffen was taken into custody. She was charged with Driving while Suspended, Driving while Barred, and Providing False Identification. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to over two years in jail.
