A Tiffin man has been arrested on drug charges after the United States Postal Inspector found that cocaine was being mailed to him.
According to a release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, during the course of an ongoing narcotics investigation the US Postal Inspector intercepted a package being sent to the address of 36-year-old Juan Daniel Lopez in Tiffin. Pursuant to a search warrant the package was opened and it contained approximately 490 grams (approximately one pound) of a white, powdery substance that presumptively tested positive for cocaine. Additional search warrants were obtained for Lopez’s residence and vehicles; during the subsequent searches law enforcement located five firearms, ammunition, digital scales and packaging materials.
Lopez was taken to the Johnson County Jail Friday afternoon and initially charged with a Controlled Substance Violation (B Felony) as well as Failure to Affix Drug Stamp (D Felony). If convicted on both charges, he faces up to 30 years in prison. He was released Saturday afternoon after posting bond.
This case was investigated by the Johnson County Drug Task Force with assistance from the United States Postal Inspector and the Muscatine County Drug Task Force.
