An armed subject who police say absconded from Hope House last year was captured after an early Saturday morning foot chase.

Iowa City Police say they pulled over a vehicle for a traffic offense near the intersection of Washington and Governor Streets just before 2:30 a.m. One of the occupants, 27-year-old Cordarro Pearson of Des Moines, reportedly fled from the scene on foot.  Pearson was captured after several blocks, with one pursuing officer suffering a knee injury.

Police say Pearson was armed with a loaded .38 Special Charter Arms revolver that he shoved into his pants when he began running.

Pearson was wanted by police after absconding from Hope House in Coralville on December 18th of last year. Representatives from the Holiday Road facility say Pearson signed out to go to Walmart and never returned.

Pearson has previous felony convictions for Burglary and Assault While Participating in a Felony. He now faces new charges of Escape From Custody, Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, Interference With Official Acts While Armed, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons and Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 13 years in prison.
