A Shelter House resident has been taken into custody after refusing to leave a convenience store and resisting police.

According to the arrest report, 39-year-old Levi Angel was previously asked to leave the Kum & Go on South Gilbert Street by management on November 19th. On the 22nd, he would not leave and was found in the bathroom by officers.  Angel was told by police not to leave, but he allegedly resisted and tried to walk out of the business.

Angel then reportedly ignored commands to put his hand behind his back and continued to resist.

Police charged him with 2nd offense Trespass and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted, he could face up to 30 days in jail.

Earlier this year, Angel was arrested twice on the evening of July 15 after allegedly stealing from the Bread Garden Market and later taking a phone away from a man he confronted who was going to call police on him.  Angel reportedly smashed the phone on the pavement and took the pieces with him when he fled. One of the theft charges was dismissed; he was given a one-year suspended sentence and 2 years probation on the other.

A week later, Angel tried to get into DC’s Sports Bar and allegedly threatened to kill an employee who told him he wasn’t allowed inside, telling him that security cameras would not save his life. Police took Angel to Mercy Hospital for evaluation at his request, and reportedly fought with them after he was discharged when they attempted to handcuff him. Last month, Judge Jason Burns handed down a one year suspended sentence on all charges, with two years probation. Fines were also suspended.
