An Iowa City man is accused of bringing his son with him as he went to vandalize his former romantic partner’s car.

According to arrest records, 35-year-old Barrett Rolph of Union Road drove to his father’s residence on Holiday Road in Coralville just after 12:15 Saturday morning with the intent to smash the windows of his ex’s car. Rolph’s son reportedly told his father that the alleged victim’s new boyfriend was with him at the residence. Police say Rolph brought the boy with him and began smashing the car’s windows. Rolph was confronted by the woman and her new boyfriend, and the son also allegedly tried to stop him. Arriving officers say Rolph continued yelling at the woman, who has a no-contact order against Rolph, as she stood on the front porch. Rolph allegedly cut his own hand while breaking the windows. Damage to the car is estimated at over $2,500.

Rolph is charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, Child Endangerment and a no-contact order violation. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
