Allegedly barricading himself inside a neighbor’s home after fleeing a traffic stop has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police say they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Benton and Orchard Streets just after 10:15 Friday night. A passenger, 20-year-old Dayvel Faulkner of Orchard Court, allegedly jumped over the driver, climbed out one of the vehicle’s windows and ran. Investigators later learned Faulkner had outstanding warrants for Willful Injury, Rioting, and weapons charges.

Faulkner reportedly led officers on a foot chase that ended with him entering an occupied, unlocked apartment on Michael Street. Police say he told the occupants to turn off the lights, then used their cellphone to call his acquaintances. He allegedly forced one of the residents into a  room with him, where he barricaded himself inside until he was removed by officers. Faulkner allegedly spilled a can of paint during the incident, ruining the carpet. He reportedly had 122 grams of marijuana and a large amount of U.S. currency on his person.

Faulkner was arrested and charged with 3rd Degree Kidnapping, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, a Controlled Substance Violation, a Drug Tax Stamp Violation and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 21 years in prison.
