University of Iowa Police briefly evacuated Burge Hall Friday morning due to a bomb threat.

A Hawk Alert sent at 11:29 Friday morning warned the public to avoid the area around the South Clinton Street dormitory while the investigation continued. A follow-up Hawk Alert at 12:06 p.m. said the situation had been resolved, and normal activity could resume.

According to a later news release from UI Police, at approximately 10:37 Friday morning Campus Safety received a report of a written bomb threat indicating there could be a dangerous package inside Burge Hall. Out of an abundance of caution, the building was evacuated while the Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad responded to sweep the impacted areas.

No explosives or dangerous materials were located. The motivation for the threat is not apparent or known at this time, and this incident remains under investigation.
