A former legal assistant in the Linn County attorney’s office is suing the county as well as attorneys Monica Slaughter and Nick Maybanks after alleged sexually inappropriate behavior from Slaughter in the workplace.

KCJJ has obtained court documents indicating former Linn County legal assistant Bonnie Waller filed the lawsuit earlier this week. It accuses Slaughter of frequently making comments about Waller’s breasts while encouraging her to get a breast reduction. The court filings allege Slaughter even exposed her own breasts to Waller without consent to show her the results of her own breast reduction surgery.

Other accusations against Slaughter include that she once referred to Waller as “Tits McGee”, she described a defendant’s face as looking like a “smushed vagina”, and she once showed video of a stripper dancing on a pole while making demeaning comments about the woman. Waller claims the video had nothing to do with the legal case being discussed at the time.

There are numerous other allegations outlined in the court documents obtained by KCJJ, including Slaughter allegedly calling other female co-workers “bitch” and the c-word.

Waller argues that staff at the Linn County Attorney’s office, including Maybanks, knew about Slaughter’s behavior and did nothing to stop it. That’s despite Waller saying she complained about the behavior on multiple occasions.

In the lawsuit, Waller alleges discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
