A traffic stop conducted early Monday morning in North Liberty led to the arrest of a Hiawatha man and two men from Albuquerque New Mexico on drug and weapon charges.
The incident occurred just before 1am near the intersection of Alexander Way and Linger Lane. Police stopped a 2023 Toyota RAV 4 for going 52 miles an hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. A K9 was requested and alerted on the vehicle.
Arrest reports do not indicate who the driver was, but the occupants included 23-year-old Kegan Myers of Oak Street in Hiawatha, 30-year-old Andres Beltran of Albuquerque, and 27-year-old Harrison Nyquist-Asmussen, also of Albuquerque. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up numerous items to grow and distribute marijuana, 193 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, and a glass pipe with meth residue.
Myers was reportedly in possession of a Glock 43X.
The three were taken into custody. Myers was charged with a controlled substance violation, a tax stamp violation, and carrying weapons. He faces up to 11 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Beltran and Nyquist-Asmussen were each charged with a controlled substance violation and a tax stamp violation. They could be sentenced to up to ten years.
