An Iowa City man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening to kill his wife, then violating a no-contact order between him and his in-laws multiple times.

48-year-old William Watson and his wife had been living apart for about two months and were on the phone together around 9:30 am discussing past situations and talking about getting a divorce. According to the woman, Watson said he was going to kill her, cut her head off, take it to her mother and beat her to death with it. He also said he would arrive momentarily to carry out the threat.

In the next hour, Watson allegedly made several calls to the protected parties, identifying himself during at least one of the five voice mails he left. He reportedly called his in-laws while an officer was in their presence.

Watson was arrested and faces a first-degree harassment charge, as well as seven contempt charges for violating the no contract order.  He faces up to two years in jail on the Harassment charge if convicted.
