Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control Seeks Public Input on Proposed Trap Neuter Release Ordinance

Edited release

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control recently announced a series of proposed changes to Cedar Rapids city ordinance that includes establishing a Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program to help control feral cat populations.  The goal of TNR is to eventually reduce the number of nuisance complaints, reduce the number of cats impounded at CRACC, and reduce animal euthanasia numbers. This proposal is modeled after research and consultation with several other comparable cities’ animal control departments.

Following feedback from several community sources, and with an intent to serve the greatest public need, Animal Care and Control is seeking further public input on this issue. An online survey where pet owners and anyone with an interest in the long-term health of the City’s cat population is encouraged to read the TNR fact sheet and participate.
