A maintenance worker at an Iowa City apartment complex is accused of assaulting a trespasser, breaking the man’s wrist in the process.

Iowa City Police were called to the south parking lot of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street at 5:00 on the night of August 31st. The alleged victim reported he was riding his bicycle through the complex when his path was blocked by a maintenance worker, identified as 47-year-old Mustapha Barnes of Cayman Street. The bicyclist claimed he tried to go around Barnes, who reportedly responded by side-stepping and shoving the man off the bike and into a concrete wall. The bicyclist suffered abrasions and a broken wrist.

Barnes reportedly told police the bicyclist was trespassing.

Barnes was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:45 Wednesday morning and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
