Classes were cancelled for the Cedar Rapids Community School District Monday after a reported social media threat.
According to a news release from Cedar Rapids Police, district officials were made aware of social media posts made over the weekend by an unidentified person or persons affecting district property. The Cedar Rapids Police Department and its resources were engaged immediately…along with state public safety agencies and the FBI…to investigate the situation.
Out of an abundance of caution and following consultation with the CRPD, the decision was been made to close all Cedar Rapids Schools campus buildings for the entire day, Monday. The Educational Leadership and Support Center will be operational. Communication from the district was sent to all families affected by the decision.
CRPD investigators began working immediately to identify the nature of the threat and its source. Police say the investigation has become complex and all leads are being examined closely. As of Monday morning, no suspects had been identified and no arrests have been made.
District officials say they will continue to communicate with the CRPD and other agencies involved in the response and will work to inform families as quickly as possible as information affecting them becomes available. Updated information will also be posted to the Cedar Rapids Community School District Facebook page.
