An Iowa City man who fled police earlier in the week was arrested Wednesday after calling 911 multiple times to turn himself in.

Sunday just before 5am, 36-year-old Terrence Martin of Petsel Place was observed in the area of Benton Street and Mormon Trek Boulevard, operating a vehicle and was recognized by an officer from numerous past interactions. Due to his barred driving status, a traffic stop was attempted, but Martin allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed, and ran into his residence.  His vehicle was subsequently towed.

At 7am that morning , Martin began to call 911 repeatedly, asking to speak to a supervisor. He reportedly spoke with a police sergeant and lieutenant, but continued repeated calls to 911. Authorities say he called the emergency number at least a dozen times and said he would continue to do so. Martin refused to meet with police on the matter.

Wednesday night, Martin again called 911 multiple times, saying he was now ready to turn himself in to authorities.  Officers went to his residence to make contact with him, but he reportedly refused to answer the door. He then called 911 again multiple times despite being given the non-emergency numbers he used previously.

Police finally made contact with Martin in the hallway of his apartment building.  He denied consuming alcohol, despite showing signs of intoxication and having the odor of ingested alcohol.

Martin faces a number of charges; they include Driving while Revoked, Driving while Barred as a Habitual Offender, False Report to Law Enforcement, 911 Non-Emergency calls, and two counts of Public Intoxication.  If convicted on all charges against him, he could be sentenced to up to 39 months in jail.
