Iowa City man with history of domestic abuse convictions now faces robbery charge

An Iowa City man with a history of domestic abuse convictions now faces a robbery charge.

32-year-old Kelvin Ware was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:30 Thursday morning. Iowa City Police were called to a theft report at Ware’s Catskill Court residence just after 11:30 Wednesday night. The alleged victim and a witness both reported that Ware jumped on the woman’s back, reached over her shoulder and took her cell phone. The alleged victim and Ware live together and share two children.

Ware is charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Ware has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple previous domestic abuse charges.
