The Muscatine City Council delayed voting on a proposed purchase of land for a law enforcement training facility last week when over a dozen neighbors who live near the site objected to the purchase.
The Muscatine Journal says the purchase agreement is between the city of Muscatine and Muscatine County to purchase land from J&S Deahr Farms LLC to be used to build the facility. The purchase price is $420,000 for the 20-acre site.
Those who attended last week’s council meeting say protection is needed for people to keep them safe from the training facility, which will include a shooting range.
After hearing a recommendations from the Muscatine County Planning & Zoning Commission, the council is expected to revisit the issue during its scheduled Thursday meeting.
