An armed panhandler is back behind bars after he allegedly skipped a probation revocation hearing last month.

36-year-old transient Aaron Neuzil is accused of skipping the hearing on August 31st. Neuzil was on probation after pleading guilty to a charge of Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons in June of last year.

In December of 2021, Iowa City Police received a complaint about Neuzil panhandling at the top of the southbound Highway 218 off-ramp to Highway 1. Neuzil was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear at a July 2021 court date on a 5th Degree Theft charge. Police say they found two containers of marijuana, a glass pipe with marijuana residue, a loaded Taurus .380 handgun and an eight-inch knife in a sheath on Neuzil’s person.

Neuzil was initially charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. A plea deal saw him plead guilty to the weapons charge, with the drug charges being dropped. He was given one year of probation.
