An Iowa City woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after it was discovered she allegedly committed multiple thefts from an ATM at her place of business.

According to police, the owner of Pints on South Clinton Street discovered financial irregularities on August 11th, involving the bar’s ATM and funds being transferred back into the business’ accounts.

While reviewing ATM records, the owner discovered numerous edits and or modifications made to the device.  A check of surveillance video showed 30 year old Mindy Lovan of Jema Court entering the business after hours and making her way to the office. A short time later, the surveillance cameras deactivated , coincidental with two ATM thefts.  When confronted by the owner, Lovan allegedly admitted stealing $1000 from the ATM on August 10th and 11th.

Further investigation showed that she made 14 different thefts going back to April 30th, totaling over $5900.

Authorities interviewed Lovan on August 21st, where she allegedly admitted to the thefts. She said financial hardships prompted her actions.  Lovan’s cellphone was seized as part of a search warrant and confirmed that she was at Pints during the time of the thefts.

A warrant was issued August 29th and she was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Lovan has been charged with 2nd degree Theft, 2nd degree Fraudulent Practice, and Tampering with Records. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
