An Iowa City man was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly assaulting the mother of their shared daughter.
Police were called to the 1300 block of 2nd Avenue at around 12:15 am. According to the arrest report, 32-year-old Luis Cardona of Spruce Street punched the woman over the head and put his hands around her neck with the intention of strangulation.
The woman had red marks and scratches on her neck area.
Cardona was located near the area of the assault and was arrested.
The couple’s daughter was witness to the incident.
Cardona was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
