Iowa City woman wanted on theft warrant charged with drug possession

An Iowa City woman who was wanted on a theft warrant was additionally charged when found with drugs on her person.

Police contacted 27-year-old Tiara Roberts of South Van Buren Street on the 2000 block of Taylor Drive Thursday at around 6:30pm.  Once confirming her identity and her outstanding warrant, Roberts was arrested.

She was wanted after she was found on August 23rd operating a moped in the Travelodge parking lot. A check of the vehicle registration showed that it had been reported stolen from a residence on the 800 block of Iowa Avenue earlier that morning.

A search incident to Roberts’s arrest allegedly found her in possession of marijuana, a crystalized substance, and a pipe with methamphetamine residue in it.

Roberts was charged with two counts of  2nd offense Controlled Substance possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and 3rd degree Theft. If convicted on all charges, Roberts could be sentenced to over six years in prison if convicted.
