A chronic Iowa City trespasser has been arrested again for the same offense.
Property management at a Keokuk Street apartment building reported responding to an alarm just after 5:45 last Thursday morning. When the manager checked on the situation, he reportedly found 24-year-old transient Shyawna Collins inside the building’s garage. Police say Collins had no right to be on the property, and she was allegedly in the process of stealing a $25 sump pump.
Arriving officers say a search of Collins’ person incident to her arrest turned up two glass pipes with burnt methamphetamine residue. She allegedly had to be dragged out of the squad car once at the Johnson County Jail, and she reportedly struggled with Johnson County deputies during the booking process.
Collins is charged with 5th Degree Theft, Trespassing, Interference With Official Acts and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 120 days in jail.
Collins has been charged with trespassing multiple times in recent months, including two break-ins at Gay and Ciha funeral home on Muscatine Avenue and multiple incidents at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street.
