Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say had a gun, a machete and multiple drugs outside an apartment building.

Officers say they encountered 30-year-old Michael Preslicka of Plum Street on the 2700 block of Wayne Avenue, smelling of marijuana while carrying an over nine-inch-long machete in a sheath on his hip. He also reportedly had a warrant for his arrest.

Police say Preslicka was in possession of a backpack that contained a Ruger revolver, meth pipes, oxycodone pills and THC cartridges. Preslicka allegedly claimed he found the backpack in a dumpster.

Preslicka was arrested and charged with two counts each of Carrying Weapons and Possession of a Controlled Substance. A charge of Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility was added after Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly found a pipe with meth residue in his pocket upon his booking into jail.

Preslicka faces a maximum of nine years in prison, if convicted on all charges.
