A reported home invasion late Friday night in Coralville has led to one arrest.
Coralville Police say they were first alerted to the incident just before 11:45pm when an officer came upon a male yelling for help while walking on the Coralville Strip in front of the Iowa Lodge. The man was reportedly hysterical and claimed a suspect in a nearby 2009 Ford Escape had assaulted him with a handgun. The alleged victim claimed an unknown man in a ski mask kicked in the door of his apartment and engaged him in a physical altercation. The two fell to the ground, where the suspect allegedly pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at him.
A traffic stop was conducted on the suspect’s vehicle. A black Beretta APX handgun and a ski mask were reportedly found inside.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Davonte Tharpe of Holiday Road, was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Burglary. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
