An Iowa City woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her grandmother, then spending most of the money at a downtown bar and on food deliveries.

Iowa City Police and the Iowa Department of Human Services received a theft report on July 18th that involved an elderly victim. The woman reported thousands of dollars in fraud on her credit and debit cards. The woman also said the suspect was her granddaughter, 22-year-old Raven Davenport of Willoughby Lane. The alleged victim reported finding one of her cards in Davenport’s bedroom.

A review of the alleged victim’s financial records reportedly turned up 135 unaccounted-for charges totaling $5,271.96. The charges were made between September of 2022 and last June. Search warrants executed on Davenport’s accounts allegedly turned up 34 purchases at Cactus 3 on South Clinton Street totaling $1,937.04 and 25 DoorDash purchases totaling $1,044.28. All of the DoorDash deliveries were to either Davenport’s home or workplace.

Police say at one point Davenport was confronted about the fraudulent charges by Cactus 3’s owners, which is when she admitted the card belonged to her grandmother.

Davenport was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 12:45 Friday afternoon and charged with 2nd Degree Theft Against an Older Individual and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
