A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody after making threats to staff at the UIHC.

Police say 21-year-old Jamison Vurciaga of Monmouth Street SW was being treated at the facility at approximately 8:49 AM Wednesday when he reportedly became hostile towards an unidentified staff member.  He allegedly made specific threats to use his thumbs to press them into the eyes of the victim, strangle the victim until his eyes turned red, and have the victim’s family watch as he killed him.

The victim was in fear of Vurciaga due to his belief that he was capable of acting on the threats.

Vurciaga was also accused of damaging several hand sanitizer stations during the incident.

Vurciaga was arrested and charged with 1st degree Harassment and 5th degree Criminal Mischief.  If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
