An Oxford man pulled over for a traffic stop was taken into custody late Tuesday night after it was learned there was an active warrant for his arrest.

39-year-old Plimio Zuniga-Duror was pulled over on 340th Street in Tiffin just before Midnight for having a license plate light out.  After determining his identity, it was learned that his driving status was barred until July 2024.

Zuniga-Duror was also wanted on a warrant for an alleged motorcycle theft.  The evening of July 6th, a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy located a motorcycle without a license plate on Highway 218 North at the 93 mile marker.  A check of the cycle’s vehicle identification number with DOT records found the motorcycle had been reported as stolen.  Zuniga-Duror was identified as the driver of the motorcycle, and he was reportedly still in possession of the only ignition key. The ignition had been allegedly damaged and hot-wired.

The victim had not given permission for Zuniga-Duror or anyone else to use the motorcycle, and the deputy’s car and body camera footage reportedly showed Zuniga-Duror as the sole operator of the cycle.

He was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Barred and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on both counts, Zuniga-Duror could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.
