An inmate at the Johnson County Jail faces charges that he destroyed a phone at the facility.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Mason Jiles of the Holiday Lodge manufactured housing community was seen on security video using an inmate phone on the north day room floor just after 10:15 Thursday night. Jiles is then reportedly seen slamming the phone against the wall, shattering it beyond repair. The debris was found by a deputy just after 8:30 the next morning.
The estimated cost to replace the phone is $399.99.
Jiles is charged with 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted, he faces a maximum of an additional one year in jail.
Jiles is currently facing a Stalking charge and several no-contact order violations related to a domestic abuse allegation out of North Liberty.
