The Iowa City man who was arrested earlier this week for allegedly breaking no-contact orders and threatening KCJJ employees has been charged with Harassment.
32-year-old Samuel McElmeel of Rochester Avenue is accused of sending three e-mails Tuesday evening that were harassing and threatening in nature. The emails were sent to multiple recipients, including news reporters on the KCJJ staff who were directly threatened.
McElmeel included his own Social Security number in one of the e-mails, which positively identified him. Among the direct threats were statements that he would, quote, “personally destroy and torture everything related to you,” and that he would, quote, “cut your flesh.”
McElmeel was already being held at the Johnson County jail on multiple violations of no-contact orders because of the emails sent Tuesday. He now faces two additional charges of 2nd degree Harassment, and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on the charges.
No-contact orders were requested by the KCJJ news reporters against McElmeel.
