Severe weather cancelled Friday night’s scheduled free concert by the band Bush in Coralville.
The show was to have been a part of the Coralville overnight stop on RAGBRAI’s 50th anniversary celebration. But at about 8:20 Friday night a Coralville Police officer took the stage at S.T. Morrison Park to warn bicyclists and other attendees to take cover due to a severe thunderstorm warning. The warning indicated the storm contained winds between 60 and 90 miles per hour, hail and heavy rain. The city opened up municipal buildings such as City Hall, the Coralville Rec Center and Northwest Junior High School for shelter.
The concert was initially pushed back, but at approximately 9:45 RAGBRAI officials tweeted that the show had been cancelled. The all-clear was sounded at around 10:45pm.
Lights around the camping areas were left on so RAGBRAI riders could find any items that were blown around by the high winds. People whose tents were seriously damaged were allowed to stay in the city shelters overnight.
There were no reported injuries.
