Transient accused of breaking into Iowa City Systems house, threatening two employees

A transient faces charges that he broke into a house being used by Systems Unlimited and threatened to kill a pair of staff members.

Iowa City Police say 32-year-old Sidney McVay broke into a Systems residence on Hollywood Boulevard just after 6:00 Wednesday morning while armed with a knife that had an over five-inch blade. He allegedly threatened to kill one Systems staff member who was inside the house and another who was outside.

McVay was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 7:45 Wednesday morning and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Going Armed With Intent, Assault With Intent to Injure in Violation of Individual Rights, Assault With A Weapon in Violation of Individual Rights, and two counts of 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted on all cahgres, he faces a maximum of 44 years in prison.

McVay was charged with 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse in 2019 after he was reportedly found alone in a locked room in Tiffin with a three-year-old  whose pull-up had been removed. McVay’s DNA was found in the child’s anal region, but he claimed he had wet his thumb to clean some lint from the area. The sexual abuse charge was dismissed, and McVay was given a $625 suspended fine on a Child Endangerment conviction.
