The summer’s hottest weather so far is heading our way this week.
The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities says to expect very hot and humid conditions through at least Friday, with heat index readings in the 90s to low 100s at times.
Scattered storms are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
There is a low threat of a few strong storms Wednesday morning, but confidence in any severe weather threat is low.
The Centers for Disease Control has several tips to protect yourself from the heat. They include choosing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing; staying in an air-conditioned place as much as possible; limiting outdoor activity to when it’s coolest, like morning and evening hours; and protecting yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher 30 minutes prior to going out.
The CDC also advises to drink plenty of fluids, regardless of how active you are. A link to their heat precautions article is available here: https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/heattips.html
