University of Iowa Health Care will begin the search for its next associate vice president and CEO of the UI Hospitals & Clinics in August. That’s according to a news release issued by UI Health.

Dr. Colin Derdeyn, chair and departmental executive officer of the UI Department of Radiology, and Peter Matthes, UI senior advisor to the president and vice president for external affairs, will serve as co-chairs of the search committee.

The firm Spencer Stuart has been selected to assist with the search process. University officials say the firm has experience in executive searches in health care, and assisted in the search earlier this year that resulted in the appointment of Dr. Denise Jamieson as UI vice president for medical affairs and the Dean of the Carver College of Medicine.

The new associate vice president and CEO will report to Jamieson.

The VP and CEO position is currently led on an interim basis by Kimberly Hunter, chief nurse executive of the UIHC. She was appointed to the position in 2022 after Dr. Suresh Gunasekaran departed to lead University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health.
