A Chicago man and his passenger stopped on Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon after a speeding violation were arrested on drug and firearm violations.
25-year old Nicholas Roberts and 24-year-old Andrea Gray were stopped as they headed eastbound on the interstate near the 235 mile marker. A probable cause search was conducted, and deputies reportedly found four 14.1-gram packets of marijuana and a firearm in the vehicle.
Roberts allegedly admitted to ownership of the firearm and two of the marijuana packets; Gray reportedly admitted to ownership of the other two packets of marijuana.
Both were taken into custody. They were each charged with Keeping a Vehicle for Controlled Substances, Marijuana Possession, and Failure to Affix Tax Stamp. Roberts faces an additional charge of Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons.
If convicted on all charges, Roberts faces up to 9 years in prison; Gray could be sentenced to up to 8 years.
