North Liberty man charged with assault

A North Liberty man faces assault charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman while intoxicated.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening on Institution Road in North Liberty, where 42-year-old Christopher Richardson reportedly grabbed the woman’s shirt, ripping it and scratching her shoulder.  Officers noted the woman had raised reddish marks on her shoulder from the altercation.

The woman was driven by in a squad car and positively identified Richardson as the culprit. When interviewed, he allegedly admitted to drinking three or four twisted tea alcoholic beverages within the last three hours.  Richardson reportedly had the strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and watery eyes.  He refused a post-arrest PBT.

Richardson was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication.  If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
