An Iowa City man faces a litany of charges after he was identified as a suspect in a burglary and shooting that occurred this spring.
Iowa City Police responded to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics the evening of April 12th for a report of a victim who had transported themselves to the facility suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the victim was shot while inside their Broadway Street residence after a dispute over property damage.
26-year-old Eldra Jennings of Davis Street was identified by witnesses as the individual who shot the victim. Police determined Jennings and a co-defendant forced their way into the victim’s residence to confront the victim physically. Jennings produced a pistol and fired one shot, striking the victim.
Officers reportedly recovered a fired cartridge casing and a projectile from the victim’s residence.
Jennings was arrested Wednesday night after a warrant was granted April 20th. Charges include 1st degree Burglary, Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Assault while displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon.
If convicted on all charges, Jennings could be sentenced to up to 42 years in prison.
