Iowa City area man arrested after allegedly found smoking crack at transient housing facility

An Iowa City man has been taken into custody on warrants stemming from an incident earlier this year when he was allegedly discovered smoking crack in a transient housing facility.

According to the arrest report, a search warrant was executed on the 501 Southgate room of 52-year-old Michael Ware on February 7th.  Upon entry, Ware was observed smoking crack with another individual.  The subsequent search turned up crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

A warrant was issued for Ware’s arrest on June 27th; he was taken into custody Monday afternoon. He faces charges of Gathering where Controlled Substances are used; Keeping Premises for Controlled Substances; two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

If convicted on all charges, Ware could be sentenced to over 14 years in prison.
