An Iowa City man who allegedly used names of well-known celebrities when arrested last October reportedly repeated the behavior when police contacted him Tuesday.

36-year-old Donnie Reed of Roberts Road was contacted by officers just after 4:30 am on the 2600 block of Westwinds Drive.  He allegedly provided the name of Geno Smith, starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks football team.

Reed was placed under arrest for providing false information, as police knew his real name from previous interactions. A search incident to arrest found a baggie with a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana.

Reed faces up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both charges.

Reed used the same Geno Smith name when he was confronted by police for being a suspect in a series of thefts on October 19th. He allegedly stole a bottle of Tito’s Vodka worth $21.49 from the Mormon Trek Kum & Go, claimed not to have a driver’s license, and also gave his identity as Chris Robinson, lead singer of the rock band The Black Crowes. Police say he had previously stolen lottery tickets and alcohol from the same location, and allegedly used a stolen credit card at Kum & Go and Hartig Drug nearby.

In February, Reed was given a five year suspended sentence and three years of probation on a Lottery Theft charge; the other theft charges were dismissed.
