A Coralville man was taken into custody after an incident involving a city Fire Chief.
Police say 58-year-old Carlos Garcia Delgado of 2nd Street approached the chief, who was wearing his official uniform, just before 6:15pm Tuesday evening at S.T. Morrison Park in Coralville with a knife in his hand. The chief told Delgado to stop coming towards him, but he continue walking towards the Chief while displaying the knife. The Chief believed that Delgado was going to harm him.
Delgado ran from the scene after two Volunteer Firefighters activated emergency lights on their UTV and approached him.
Delgado was taken into custody and charged with Going Armed with Intent and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations while displaying a weapon. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
