Faculty and staff at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital say they’re seeing a growing trend of counterfeit car seats.

The counterfeit seats are being discovered during both patient appointments and seat-fitting events. UI Health Care’s Injury Prevention Team warns parents to watch for the following red flags:

  1. Missing labels or labels with grammatically incorrect language or errors
  2. No manual, or a manual with grammatically incorrect language or errors
  3. A missing chest clip
  4. Thin or narrow harness straps
  5. And manufacturer names that don’t include a web site and/or customer service phone number.

That list can be found in this story on the KCJJ app and at 1630KCJJ.com.

The UIHC Injury Prevention Team warns that counterfeit seats don’t meet federal safety standards.
