An Iowa City man who was allegedly involved in what police said was “riotous behavior” earlier this month was arrested after he claimed because he was an adult, he could do anything.

The incident occurred around 11pm June 16th on the Ped Mall.  18-year-old Shawn Jones of Davis Street was reportedly involved in the incident, which was broken up after police dispersed those involved.  Rather than follow those orders to disperse, Jones allegedly told an officer he didn’t have to “do anything” because he was 18.  When the officer then told him that he could go to jail if he didn’t move along, Jones reportedly attempted to flee.  He reportedly had to be taken into custody by force, and continued to ignore officer commands to stop.

Jones was charged with Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor.  Judge Christine Boyer set a non-jury trial for August 10th, where he could be sentenced to up to 30 days in jail.
