One of the most popular events hosted at the Englert Theater in recent years wasn’t a musician, a comedian or a lecture…it was pro wrestling.

Saturday night’s storm ended the Downtown Iowa City Block Party early, and it also sent the SCWPro Wrestling event that had been scheduled for outside on East Washington Street in front of the Englert to inside the theater on its historic stage.

The pro wrestling event was a popular attraction at last year’s block party. This year’s SCWPro event was no different, as wrestlers performed to a standing room only crowd with several of the attendees being forced to literally stand in the balcony area, according to photos and videos tweeted out by the group. Admission was free.

Many of the wrestlers at Saturday’s event came from the Black & Brave Academy in the Quad Cities, which is run by Davenport native and current WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins and his wife, multiple time former WWE women’s champion Becky Lynch.
