Multiple guns and drugs were reportedly found during a Friday afternoon raid of a ten-time felon’s Iowa City residence.
Iowa City Police say they arrested 50-year-old Lundell Buchanan just before 1am on June 8th during a traffic stop near the intersection of Burlington and Summit Streets after he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine. Buchanan was arrested again on Friday after he reportedly admitted to giving a woman cocaine out of his pocket in the bathroom of a downtown bar. Police say Buchanan claimed he didn’t know he had any cocaine left in his pocket, and that the only reason girls hang out with him is because they know he will give them narcotics.
Police raided Buchanan’s Heinz Road apartment just before 4pm Friday. They reportedly located approximately 11 grams of cocaine, a cutting agent, a digital scale with residue, marijuana, a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun, and a loaded Kel-Tec P11 9mm handgun. Once at the police station, Buchanan allegedly refused to get out of the squad car and physically resisted officers.
Buchanan has ten previous felony convictions from Johnson, Linn and Henry counties for various drug and drunk driving offenses. He’s now charged with two Controlled Substance Violations, two counts each of Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon and Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuser as well as one count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 60 years in prison.
