A spitting incident led to a verbal, then physical altercation that resulted in an Iowa City transient’s arrest.
Police say 27-year-old Davee Ceya and the victim were near the Harrison Street ramp Tuesday afternoon when Ceya spit in the direction of the other man. The two then engaged in a verbal altercation, and Ceya allegedly hit the victim in the face over a dozen times.
The man suffered cuts to his nose and mouth, a swollen eye and a goose egg above his left eye that required medical attention. The incident was caught on camera, and witnesses had to break up the altercation.
Ceya was taken to the Johnson County Jail, where during booking deputies allegedly located a pre-rolled marijuana blunt between his legs in his underwear.
Ceya was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, Disorderly Conduct, Marijuana possession, and Contraband in a Correctional Institution. If convicted, he could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
