A Wayland Iowa woman was charged after an incident relating to two dogs in her care.
Police say 29-year-old Ashley Sutton owns a dog grooming and boarding business in Wayland and came into possession of two blue healer puppies that she attempted to rehome. The puppies were returned to her care and were reportedly found to be ill and in need of veterinary care.
Sutton allegedly made a 45-minute drive to Iowa City on May 24th, where she called the Joint Communications Center claiming to have found the dogs as strays. Two officers responded and took the puppies for emergency treatment before being taken to the Animal Care and Control Shelter.
The city incurred the time and expense of the officers responding to Sutton’s call and the treatment of the puppies. When contacted, Sutton later allegedly admitted that she fabricated her claims of finding the two pups because she didn’t know what else to do.
A warrant was requested for Sutton’s arrest, but Judge Mark Neary declined to issue a warrant. He instead set an initial appearance for Sutton on June 27th. She was charged with providing a false reporet to a public entity, a simple misdemeanor.
