An Iowa City man faces charges that he disseminated video of him having sex with another person without that person’s consent.
University of Iowa Police say last March 21-year-old Tomas Rivera Jr. of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community sent the video, as well as still photos of the sex act, to a user on Instagram who he did not know.
The other person in the video and images claims they did not give Rivera permission to disseminate the video or photos, which were later reportedly recovered from Rivera’s phone and Instagram account by investigators.
The scene of the crime is listed as Grand Avenue, and although UI Police investigated the case, it is unknown if the victim or the recipient of the video and images is a UI student or otherwise associated with the university.
Rivera was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3:15 Thursday afternoon and charged with 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
