An Iowa City man wanted for skipping his trial last year is back in Johnson County after spending time in a Louisiana jail for allegedly threatening a public official.
33-year-old Hardy Weeks of Friendship Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:30 Wednesday morning. Weeks was wanted for skipping his trial on a Public Intoxication charge last year. Police say just after 4:45pm last November 13th, Weeks had been involved in a disturbance at a residence on Oasis Avenue, between Iowa City and West Branch. When Johnson County deputies arrived on the scene, Weeks reportedly walked away from the house, through a field, and onto nearby 400th Street. He allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication.
Deputies arrested Weeks, who then allegedly stripped off his clothes, slipped his handcuffs to the front, and tried to break the windows of the patrol vehicle.
Weeks failed to attend his scheduled trial on December 29th. Records indicate he was in a Louisiana jail for threatening a public official there. No other details about that incident have been made available.
A new Johnson County trial date was set for July 7th. Weeks has since been released without bond.
