A drunk driving suspect reportedly found with a firearm and drugs in his vehicle is accused of calling 9-1-1 to demand more police.

Iowa City Police say they conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Hyundai Elantra just after 8:45 Saturday night at the intersection of Gilbert Street and Highway 6. The vehicle reportedly smelled of raw marijuana, and officers attempted to conduct a probable cause investigation. But the vehicle’s driver, 28-year-old Willie McGee of Bittersweet Court, reportedly exited the car and locked it to prevent the search. Police say he also called 9-1-1, telling the dispatcher he needed more officers on the scene.

Investigators were eventually able to access the inside of the vehicle. They report finding loose marijuana scattered throughout the car. A Glock handgun was also allegedly found in the center console.

Police say McGee showed signs of impairment and refused urine and blood testing. He was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Carrying Weapons While Intoxicated, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Interference With Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all charges, McGee faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
