A Coralville man who was in the Johnson County Jail on a probation violation has been charged after damaging his cell door.
Late Monday night, 29-year old Chad Fairchild reportedly kicked the window on his door in Cell Block G at the jail, shattering it and making it unusable. He was charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
Fairchild was in the jail due to an undisclosed probation violation after being given a suspended sentence for allegedly robbing Hawkeye Smoke and Liquor on the corner of Clinton and College Street in Iowa City last summer at knifepoint. In December, he was given a ten-year suspended sentence and suspended fine. Fairchild was also ordered to spend a year in a residential facility.
Fairchild was also given a suspended sentence after allegedly exposing himself and masturbating in front of staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on multiple occasions in 2019.
