The victim of a boat crash on the Cedar River has been airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, just after 1pm Saturday 51-year-old Jeffrey Mattison of Cedar Rapids collided with a bridge piling while boating between the Highway 100 bridge and Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids. Mattison was non-responsive and immediately airlifted to the UIHC. His condition is not known at this time. Cedar Rapids Police say Mattison reportedly struck a cement structure protruding above water while operating at a speed sufficient to cause severe damage to the boat and serious injury to himself. He was the only occupant of the vessel.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
