An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant stemming from him allegedly stealing, then pawning, an Xbox acquired during a burglary.

Police say 25-year-old Jerry Gomez stole the gaming system from a subject known to him during a burglary in Iowa City on March 4th.  Gomez then reportedly went to the Coralville location of Video Games Etc the following month and pawned the device.

The stolen X-Box’s serial number matched the one stolen during the burglary, and Gomez was reportedly captured on store surveillance video completing the transaction. In addition, Gomez allegedly provided his personal cell number, residence and driver’s license for the transaction.

The gaming system was worth $500, and Video Games Etc. suffered a loss of $325.

A warrant was requested on May 17th. Gomez was arrested and taken into custody early Sunday morning. He’s been charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
